Department of Civil Engineering (CE):
Civil Engineering is one of the most traditional engineering studies in India. CIVIL engineering comes under core branch. The first year of Civil Engineering students will learn about the basic engineering techniques such as Engineering Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Fundamentals of Computing and Engineering Drawing. From second year onwards the student starts learning about the core subjects. Some of the subjects taught in these 6 semesters are Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Design of Structures, Structural Mechanics, Water Resource Engineering, and Transportation Engineering.
The course is of 4 years, divided into first year and 6 semesters each of about 6 months. At the end of 1st year and each semester, an examination is held to judge the understanding of the students in that year/semester.
To get admission into B. Tech in Civil Engineering under convener quota one needs to clear the entrance examination conducted by the State Government. For management quota, the General criteria are that one should be 10 + 2 passed with 50% aggregate and Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as the optional subjects.
Today, civil engineers are at the forefront of technology. They are the leading users of sophisticated high-tech products – applying the very latest concepts in computer-aided design (CAD) to support the design, construction, project scheduling, and cost control. These projects might include the development and construction of bridges, tunnels, roads, railways, dams and major buildings. Civil engineers are problem solvers, meeting the challenges of pollution, traffic congestion, drinking water and energy needs, and urban redevelopment. The civil engineer has a vital role to play in improving the quality of life in the 21st century.
Core Companies for Civil Engineers:
Associated Engineering Consultants, construction companies like Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Railways, Engineers India Ltd., DRDO, ISRO, SERC, RAMKY and JAIPYEE Group are few companies and organizations to name. Each one of them offers jobs to civil engineering students. Apart from some of these private companies many of the public sector undertakings are also providing jobs to civil engineers. Few of them are as follows: Engineers India limited, Bharath Heavy Engineering Limited, Electronics Corporation of India, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, ONGC, SAIL, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.
